When retailers come to New York City in search of the latest
fashion innovations, they head for Seventh Avenue. But what goes on behind the
scenes to bring apparel products to the marketplace?
This video explores how the expertise of many industrial
partners guides the turning of raw materials into finished products. Included
are on-sight observances of the mills that turn fibers into fabrics, the
designer’s role in the creation of the new styles and silhouettes, production
facilities that transform materials into finished products, and the venues in
which the samples are marketed.
High-profile participants in the creation and distribution of
fashion present their expertise on specialized aspects of the fashion industry.
They include Happy Kids (manufacturer), designer Joanna Mastroianni,
Edward Wilkerson designer for Lafayette 148 (bridge apparel
manufacturer), and Beth Terrell, co-owner of Lizden Industries (specializes
in the development of private label merchandise).
