While America in the 1980s spent extravagantly on their
purchases, the recession of 1990 was one of the factors that made the population
become more value conscious. Although numerous types of outlets were becoming
popular before this time, today, there is a tremendous explosion in this type of
retailing. Show a video that covers all these retail trends:
Off-Price. One of the fastest growing types of
operations are the off-price organizations such as T.J. Maxx, Burlington Coat
Factory, Today’s Man, and Steinmart. One of the country's leading market
specialists in the procurement of off-price merchandise discusses how the
purchase of this merchandise is negotiated, and how the internet plays a vital
role in its procurement.
Discounters. Along with the off-price phenomenon,
discounters such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Kmart are explored to show how they
are appealing to this vast market.
Outlets. Visits to outlet centers all across the
nation are made to such places as Sawgrass Mills, the country's largest outlet
mall, St. Augustine, Florida, a center that draws tourists visiting the state,
and Gurnee Mills outside of Chicago. Outlets of such companies as DKNY, Coach,
The Gap, Geoffrey Beane, WestPoint Stevens, Mikasa, and others are featured.
Catalogs/Internet. In another direction, alternative
value shopping is explored in catalogs and on internet web sites.
