The fashion industry is made up of many components, the largest of which,
women's wear, is examined as are the apparel runners-up, men's wear and
children's wear. Rounding out the industry for finished goods is the
ever-expanding field of accessories. Many of the accessories markets will be
explored to show their impact on fashion, and their potential to make an even
greater impact in the 21st century.
Included in the presentation are fashion trends such as secondary designer
collections, relaxed dress in the business world, often referred to as
"Casual Friday," and the popularity of private labels and how they
affect designer labels, each of which is addressed by Ms. Robin Mori, formerly
of Seventeen Magazine, and now Special Events Director of Jacobson's Department
Store.
Appearances by Ralph Lauren, who speaks of his entry into fashion, Oscar de
la Renta, who talks about his detour into the fashion world, Judith Leiber, who
talks about her unusual handbag designs, Richard Tyler's examination of how he
designs a collection, and other notables in the industry.
